Fishing stay in Bergueda: rivers and reservoirs from La Tor de Montclar

The Bergueda is a privileged territory for sport fishing. Mountain rivers with native trout, reservoirs with carp and pike-perch, and unspoilt nature that makes every fishing day a complete experience. La Tor de Montclar, close to the Bastareny river and the Baells reservoir, is the ideal base for anglers.

Trout rivers of the Bergueda

The rivers of the Bergueda are renowned for their trout fishing:

  • Bastareny River: 10 minutes from the farmhouse. A mountain river with native brown trout. Sections of open fishing and restricted stretches. Cold, crystal-clear water, ideal for fly fishing.
  • Upper Llobregat: From Castellar de n'Hug to Guardiola, the upper Llobregat is a quality trout river. Marked sections with different fishing regulations.
  • Gosol stream: A small mountain torrent with trout in a wild and peaceful setting.

The brown trout (Salmo trutta fario) is the premier species of these rivers. Dry fly fishing is the most popular method.

The Baells reservoir

The Baells reservoir, 25 minutes from the farmhouse, is the great lake of the Bergueda:

  • Species: Carp, pike-perch, black bass and barbel. Carp can exceed 10 kg.
  • Methods: Bottom fishing, spinning and carp fishing. Designated areas on the banks accessible by car.
  • Setting: The reservoir is surrounded by pine and oak forests, with views of the Pedraforca. A peaceful and photogenic spot.

Remember that you need a Catalonia fishing licence, which can be obtained online from the Catalan government website.

Fly fishing: the Bergueda as a destination

Fly fishing has grown in popularity in the Bergueda thanks to the quality of its rivers:

  • Season: From the third Sunday in March to 31 August for trout (dates may vary -- check current regulations).
  • Recommended flies: Mayflies and caddis are the most effective imitations on Bergueda rivers.
  • Fishing guides: Local guides know the best stretches and the most effective techniques for each river.

The combination of quality rivers, unspoilt natural surroundings and low fishing pressure makes the Bergueda an increasingly valued fly-fishing destination.

After the fishing: the farmhouse

Returning to La Tor de Montclar after a day of fishing is a pleasure:

  • Equipped kitchen: If you practise catch and release, buy locally farmed trout to prepare trout on the griddle with garlic and parsley.
  • Barbecue: Perfect for an informal supper after a day on the river.
  • Fireplace: Dry your equipment and warm up by the fire while sharing the day's stories.
  • 7 bedrooms: Quality rest for an early start to get back to the river the next morning.
