The Bergueda and the Catalan Pre-Pyrenees are an exceptional territory for climbing in all its forms: sport, traditional, via ferrata and alpinism. La Tor de Montclar, with capacity for large groups and facilities for recovery after a day on the rock, is the ideal base for a climbing trip.
Sport climbing sectors
The area offers limestone crag sectors with routes for all levels:
- Vallcebre: 20 minutes from the farmhouse. Sectors with routes from 15 to 30 metres, grades 4 to 7c+. Compact limestone with good friction. Ideal for groups with mixed abilities.
- Roca de Nargo: 1 hour away. One of the major sectors in Catalonia with hundreds of routes between 5+ and 8b. Tall walls with a south-facing aspect, perfect for cold days.
- Oliana: 1.5 hours away. A world-renowned sector with high-grade routes (8a to 9b+), where Chris Sharma opened his legendary route. For advanced climbers.
Via ferrata nearby
Via ferrata combines climbing and hiking and is accessible to beginners:
- Via Ferrada dels Empedrats (Vallcebre): K2-K3 difficulty, with a Tibetan bridge and spectacular views of the Pedraforca. 20 minutes from the farmhouse.
- Via Ferrada del Paller del Roc (Baga): K3 difficulty, vertical and thrilling, with a rappel descent. 15 minutes.
- Via Ferrata at Montserrat: For those who want to combine climbing with a visit to the monastery, 1.5 hours away.
Hiring a guide is recommended if you have no previous via ferrata experience.
Alpinism on the Pedraforca
The Pedraforca (2,506 m) is the emblematic mountain of the Bergueda and offers classic alpine routes:
- Canal del Verdet: Classic alpine route on the north face, with grade II-III scrambling. Requires experience and alpine equipment.
- Pas dels Gosolans: Ascent route on the south face with sections of easy scrambling (grade I-II) and exposure.
- Full traverse: Ascent of the Pollego Superior and descent via the Pollego Inferior -- a full day of alpinism.
In winter, the Pedraforca presents real alpine conditions with snow and ice -- only for experienced climbers with appropriate gear.
