La Tor de Montclar - Montclar: our village, at the heart of Berguedà

Montclar: our village, at the heart of Berguedà

Montclar is the municipality where La Tor de Montclar, our farmhouse, is located. Situated on a plateau at 878 metres altitude, this small Berguedà village embodies the essence of rural Catalan life. With just over 100 inhabitants, Montclar offers the absolute tranquillity of a preserved natural environment, with spectacular views toward the Cadí-Moixeró ranges and the Pedraforca. Living here means experiencing the authentic rhythm of mountain village life - the church bells marking hours, neighbours working their land, seasons passing in their ancient cycle. This is where you are staying, and understanding Montclar helps you appreciate the privilege of your location.

The village and its setting

Montclar extends across a gentle plateau between the Serra de Queralt to the south and the first Pre-Pyrenean ranges to the north. The main nucleus is small, with the parish church of Sant Martí de Montclar, of Romanesque origin, as the central element around which a handful of houses cluster.

Scattered farmsteads throughout the municipality create a landscape of cereal fields, meadows and forests that changes with the seasons: intense green in spring, golden in summer, ochre in autumn, and with luck, white in winter. This is working agricultural landscape - the fields are cultivated, the forests managed, the traditional cycle of rural life continuing much as it has for centuries.

La Tor de Montclar: the farmhouse

La Tor de Montclar is a restored stone farmhouse preserving the essence of rural Berguedà architecture. The house offers accommodation for groups, with spacious interiors, garden and a privileged position with mountain views that change with weather and light. The building exemplifies traditional Catalan masia architecture - thick stone walls, wooden beams, multiple levels.

Staying at Montclar means experiencing rural Catalonia authentically: waking to birdsong, walking among fields, watching sunset over the Cadí, and enjoying the starred sky without light pollution. The silence at night is profound - no traffic, no urban hum, just wind and occasionally an owl. This is increasingly rare in modern Europe and correspondingly precious.

Authentic rural life

Montclar maintains living rural traditions. Farmsteads continue working the land and raising livestock. Village life organises around traditional festivals, aplecs (local celebrations) and the agricultural calendar. The festa major brings the community together in celebration, while harvest time sees collective labour.

Berga, only 15 minutes away, provides all services that Montclar, given its size, cannot offer. But it is precisely this smallness that makes Montclar special: a refuge of peace at the heart of Berguedà. You have access to services when needed but return to profound tranquillity. This combination is ideal for those seeking genuine disconnection without complete isolation.
